meg,
In this collection of stories and essays, the author recounts different wild stories from her past, from her childhood until her adulthood。 I really enjoyed the casual and conversational style that the writing took thorough this book。 It made for a fun and rather easy read。 It felt like listening to a friend telling you of their lived experience and advice。
Poppy Marlowe,
This book is hilarious - in fact, hubby, who goes to bed 3 hours before I do asked me to stop laughing so hard as I kept waking him up。Self-care is a term that is ubiquitous and over-used as a result of the pandemic。 I have heard it applied from everything from journalling to taking a walk every day to Belgray's mentioned hair removal and all the way to a spa I found in Halifax that offers everything vajayjay。 (Oh damn you GOOP as you lead to a place that does facials, steaming, plumping treatme This book is hilarious - in fact, hubby, who goes to bed 3 hours before I do asked me to stop laughing so hard as I kept waking him up。Self-care is a term that is ubiquitous and over-used as a result of the pandemic。 I have heard it applied from everything from journalling to taking a walk every day to Belgray's mentioned hair removal and all the way to a spa I found in Halifax that offers everything vajayjay。 (Oh damn you GOOP as you lead to a place that does facials, steaming, plumping treatments, tightening and things I cannot even stomach enough to mention!)"Living your best life" was made popular by Oprah but this is the best approach as it lets us discover going the suggested 110% in life but also not giving a rat's ass about it。 "Tough titties said the kitties and the milk went dry!" is the exact saying and I am glad that I now have "permission" to be a dork and not feel guilty about it。This is perfect for book clubs and casual readers and I am going to promote the heck out of it! 。。。more

At first the title had me thinking this was going to be a totally different book than it was! Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy for the purpose of the review。 5 stars from me。I adored Laura's writing and identified with so many of her stories。 She writes in great details about her life and growing up。 How difficult it is to love yourself just as you are。 I thought it was interesting how she was able to pinpoint the exact moments when the shift in her mind about her body image happened。 W At first the title had me thinking this was going to be a totally different book than it was! Thank you Hachette Books for the advanced copy!As this was a gift, I was inclined to enjoy it, so I'll begin with the positive。 The author is witty and knows how to turn a phrase。 However, I wish she'd used those skills to tell more complex stories。 At 50? years old, I hope she'd share these stories from a place of hard-won wisdom or at least place them within the larger social and cultural context in which she lived。 She completely lost me at "Blow Jobs I Gave In The Early 90s"。 That's when I g Thank you Hachette Books for the advanced copy!As this was a gift, I was inclined to enjoy it, so I'll begin with the positive。 The author is witty and knows how to turn a phrase。 However, I wish she'd used those skills to tell more complex stories。 At 50? years old, I hope she'd share these stories from a place of hard-won wisdom or at least place them within the larger social and cultural context in which she lived。 She completely lost me at "Blow Jobs I Gave In The Early 90s"。 That's when I gave up hope and decided not to finish。This book only serves to prove that when you're born priviledged (as the author admits early on) you can barely try at life and continuously fail upwards。 Maybe this book would be entertaining to college students, but I do hope they're smarter than I was and reading something more profound。 。。。more

I think deep down, as Belgray often says, I’m still twelve too。This book is a quick and easy read and you’ll find yourself nodding along at times。 I highly recommend you pick it up and celebrate being your worse f-ing self too。I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bibliolifestyle and Hachette Book。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

Thank you to both #NetGalley and Hachette Books for providing me an advance copy of Laura Belgray’s nonfiction work, Tough Titties On Living Your Best Life When You're the F-ing Worst, in exchange for an honest review。Tough Tities is a collection of humorous personal essays about the author, ranging from childhood through to her current age。 Although I didn’t identify with all her person struggles, her writing alone is worth the entertainment。 If you enjoy reading works penned by David Sedaris a Thank you to both #NetGalley and Hachette Books for providing me an advance copy of Laura Belgray’s nonfiction work, Tough Titties On Living Your Best Life When You're the F-ing Worst, in exchange for an honest review。Tough Tities is a collection of humorous personal essays about the author, ranging from childhood through to her current age。 Although I didn’t identify with all her person struggles, her writing alone is worth the entertainment。 If you enjoy reading works penned by David Sedaris and Jenny Lawson, then I highly recommend adding Laura Belgray to your list。 Witty, self-deprecating, and unapologetic, there wasn’t a dull moment in this collection。In case you misread the title, this book is not for the faint of heart。 You will encounter taboo subjects, such as sexual misadventures, not wanting to have children, and breast reduction surgery。 If you lack a sense of humor for any of these topics, you may want to ask your local librarian for directions to the “new age” stack。 The book was not intended to help you on your “self-actualization” journey, but may end up doing so anyway for some readers。 You will know instantly whether this book is the one for you after reading the author’s helpful introduction tips。 。。。more
Jody,
Read this book。 No, seriously。 It made me laugh and shake my head。 I saw parts of myself in it。 It's even inspiring, without being self-help-y。 I had never heard of Laura Belgray before Hachette very kindly sent me an advance reader copy, but I'm ready to read her next book, whenever she gets up off the couch and writes it。 Read this book。 No, seriously。 It made me laugh and shake my head。 I saw parts of myself in it。 It's even inspiring, without being self-help-y。 I had never heard of Laura Belgray before Hachette very kindly sent me an advance reader copy, but I'm ready to read her next book, whenever she gets up off the couch and writes it。 。。。more

Thank you to the publisher for an ARC to review。Don’t let the title fool you, folks - there’s not a whole lot of advice in here。 But there are a whole lot of stories about how being very mediocre and privileged can get you places!I’m not trying to bash on Laura Belgray - she would probably say the same thing about herself。If you do want advice - skip to the last chapter for how to achieve your best life。If you want funny life stories (in the same vein as Jenny Lawson) - this will probably tickle Thank you to the publisher for an ARC to review。Don’t let the title fool you, folks - there’s not a whole lot of advice in here。 But there are a whole lot of stories about how being very mediocre and privileged can get you places!I’m not trying to bash on Laura Belgray - she would probably say the same thing about herself。If you do want advice - skip to the last chapter for how to achieve your best life。If you want funny life stories (in the same vein as Jenny Lawson) - this will probably tickle your fancy。Nothing about it stood out to me, really, in a sea of humor essays/memoirs。 。。。more
Victoria George,
This book of essays just fell a bit flat for me。 Some chapters had me chuckling out loud while others had me snoozing。 I think my mom, who is around the same age, may have found this funnier than I did
Suz Hutch,
Thank you to good reads for this advanced copy! This is the stories of Laura Belgray and I guess her progress to success? She tells stories from her past to relate to each chapter。 The chapter names and the book title itself are probably the funniest parts of the whole book。 While she is very open about all her experiences they are not great ones to share。 She comes across as unambitious (as she herself would say), annoying, naive and just truly the worst person (as again her title suggests)。 I Thank you to good reads for this advanced copy! OMG, Laura Belgray, thankyouthankyouthank you for this book! Every time I run across a book like this, it's written by a Millennial。 It is just so nice for a fellow member of Gen X to come out as less than the epitome of cool。 Now, there are a lot of things you've done that I never had the chance to do, so you're better than you think。 Thanks to your candor, though, I can rest assured that I am not a complete and total loser。 In putting yourself out there, I feel like I have met a potential frie OMG, Laura Belgray, thankyouthankyouthank you for this book! Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy! This was my first read of Belgray's and loved her writing style。 Her stories were so funny and she has experienced so much both good and bad。 Love that she embarrasses the humiliating situations and still tries to find the best。 After reading this, I want to go back and read more of her work。 Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy! This was my first read of Belgray's and loved her writing style。 Her stories were so funny and she has experienced so much both good and bad。 Love that she embarrasses the humiliating situations and still tries to find the best。 After reading this, I want to go back and read more of her work。 。。。more

I couldn’t resist reading this。 The cover alone had me sold。 I found myself chuckling at Laura Belgray’s life stories and being similar in age I found them humorously relatable。 We have had some very similar experiences, right down for the love of Ben & Jerry’s Health Bar Crunch, liking those bad boys (life would have been so much easier), feeling that mythical spark, even telling people they are lucky for sleeping all night without peeing。This book is more of a memoir with life experience wisdo I couldn’t resist reading this。 The cover alone had me sold。 I found myself chuckling at Laura Belgray’s life stories and being similar in age I found them humorously relatable。 We have had some very similar experiences, right down for the love of Ben & Jerry’s Health Bar Crunch, liking those bad boys (life would have been so much easier), feeling that mythical spark, even telling people they are lucky for sleeping all night without peeing。This book is more of a memoir with life experience wisdom sprinkled throughout。 This book is what life is all about, gaining experiences and learning from them。 Learning your worthiness。Special thanks to Netgalley and Hachette Books for providing a digitally advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review。bit。ly/3F2cD8m 。。。more
